NZ standard turf rolls are 600 × 1500 mm = 0.9 m² each. For 150 m² with a standard shape (10% waste) you need 150 × 1.10 / 0.9 = 184 rolls. This calculator adjusts for shape complexity automatically.
A minimum 50 mm (5 cm) of quality topsoil is recommended under instant turf for good root establishment. For 150 m² that is 0.75 m³. This calculator includes topsoil volume in its output.
Instant turf gives immediate results and can be used within days, but costs more ($10–$20/m² for turf vs $1–$2/m² for seed). Seed is cheaper and can produce better root depth, but takes 4–8 weeks to establish and needs careful watering. Both are supported by this calculator.
