Calculate shore power current draw, minimum breaker size and cable cross-section for vessel electrical connections.
Enter total load to calculate shore power requirements.
Cable ampacity derated to 80% per AS/NZS 3000. Per AS/NZS 3004.2 (marine electrical). Always confirm with a licenced marine electrician.
AS/NZS 3004.2 covers the installation of electrical systems on recreational and small commercial vessels in NZ and Australia. It specifies shore power connections, cable sizing, overcurrent protection and earthing requirements.
Most NZ marinas supply single-phase 230 V AC at 50 Hz, matching the standard domestic supply. Some larger berths for commercial or larger vessels may offer 3-phase 400 V. Shore power sockets in NZ and AU typically use IEC 60309 industrial connectors (blue 16A or 32A).
List all electrical loads that may run simultaneously while berthed: battery chargers, bilge pumps, refrigeration, air conditioning, lighting, entertainment. Add their wattage ratings. Apply a diversity factor of 0.7–0.9 for typical berthed use.
