Lift Traffic Intensity Calculator

Calculate up-peak handling capacity and expected interval for elevator banks using ISO 4190-6 methodology. Identify whether your lift configuration can handle peak demand.

Enter building population and lift parameters to calculate traffic intensity.

HC% = (300 × capacity × loading × lifts) ÷ (RTT × population). Target ≥ 15% for office buildings per ISO 4190-6. Interval = RTT ÷ lifts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good HC% for an office building?

ISO 4190-6 recommends ≥ 15% for standard commercial offices. Buildings with cafeterias or lecture theatres may need higher. Residential and hotel buildings can operate comfortably at 7–10%.

How is RTT estimated?

Round trip time = (floor-to-floor travel time × expected stops × 2) + door times + passenger transfer time. Dedicated lift simulation software is used for accurate RTT in large or complex buildings.

What loading factor should I use?

80% is standard for commercial office peaks; 70% for mixed-use; 50% for residential and hotels where arrivals are more spread out.
