Check emergency lighting illuminance against AS/NZS 2293.1 requirements for escape routes and open areas.
Typical emergency fitting: 80–500 lm

Simplified lumen method with UF=0.5. Actual photometric design required for compliance per AS/NZS 2293.1.
AS/NZS 2293.1 requires a minimum horizontal illuminance of 0.2 lux at floor level along the centre of escape routes. For open-area (anti-panic) lighting and high-risk task areas, the minimum rises to 1.0 lux over the working area.
AS/NZS 2293.2 requires monthly functional tests (minimum 30 seconds), six-monthly tests (duration test to 90% of rated period), and annual full-duration tests (90 minutes). Test records must be kept on site. Automatic self-test luminaires can reduce the manual testing burden.
Escape route lighting illuminates corridors, stairs and exit routes, requiring 0.2 lux minimum. Open-area (anti-panic) lighting is for larger areas where people need to find an exit safely, requiring 1.0 lux. High-risk task lighting covers areas where work must safely cease, requiring illuminance at 10% of normal task level or 15 lux minimum.
