Estimate cooling load for cold rooms, freezers and display cases. Get a recommended compressor size.
Ambient minus room target temp (e.g. 30 − 4 = 26)
Heat from product entering room
Add transmission load (U-value × area × temperature difference), infiltration load (air entering through doors), product load (heat from goods entering at warm temperature), and equipment load (lights, motors). Apply a safety factor of 10–15%. This calculator estimates all components.
For a 20 m³ cold room at 4°C in 30°C ambient, expect a transmission load of approximately 1–1.5 kW plus product and infiltration loads. A typical 2.2–3.0 kW refrigeration unit is usually sufficient. Enter your exact values in the calculator above.
Cold room refrigeration (0–4°C) typically achieves COP 1.8–2.5. Freezer rooms at −18°C have lower COP values of 1.1–1.5 due to the larger temperature difference. Higher COP means better energy efficiency.
